Transverse Object, 2010.
Technique: Traditional flaked wax technique and glass.
Process: These candles are a collaboration of Valeria Florescano in conjunction with the traditional family workshop of Viviana Alavés Hipólito in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca. The technique is to form pieces or " laced " thin layers of wax by using wooden, clay or glass fiber molds. The natural bee 's wax , before was colored with natural dyes such as coconut, indigo, or cochinneal insects. This collaboration with the artisans of Oaxaca tries to explore the formal possibilities of the material, and maintain active and competitive this technique for producing contemporary pieces.
The collaboration was preceded by the exhibition " Transverse Object" sponsored by the Design Center of Oaxaca, in Galería José Luis Benlliure (UNAM university,in México City, and later exhibited at the Museum of Rihimaki in Finland in March 10, 2013 .
